For some time now, France has been using the digital version of the well-known CAT I and CAT II Road Maps .
However, the paper versions of these maps remain required to be present in the vehicle .

These maps and accompanying booklet "service data on transport, routes and accessories" can still be bought from European Permit Service.

These road maps are for the use of first and second category exceptional transport vehicles for which a permanent individual traffic permit has been issued in accordance with the provisions of articles R.433-1 to R.433-6 of the Highway Code and the amended Interministerial Decree of May 4, 2006.

Permits exceptional transport are required from the following dimensions:

Length > 16.5m and/or width > 2.55m and/or weight > 44 tons
